Although my new website is not yet fully launched as planned - a chosen lifestyle shift and huge learning curve – life has been full.  And, yes, there has been a major accomplishments this past year.

The new locaiton for Wellspring Calgary was opened June 11th.   Through the generous contribution of Carma Developers who gifted the building of this beautiful home in a parklike setting, the tireless efforts of our staff and volunteers, the commitment of our many facilitators, and the focused intent and vision of our Board of Directors, the cancer community in Calgary now has a most special haven (Wellspring Carma House) for hope, encouragement, joy, peer support, workshops, etc.  - everything anyone living with cancer needs, including family and friends.  All at no cost.  If you live in the Calgary, Alberta area, please visit us at 1404 Home Road NW – or visit our website at www.wellspringcalgary.ca.

Family was key – I became a first time grandma November 7th.  What a joyous time as those of you who are already grandparents understand.  No money or accolades can rival the sheer bliss of cuddling my grandson.

Managing to priortize activites, commitments, etc. was a bit more challenging.  I so wanted to get my website up and running but life happens.  It has been a bigger learning curve than anticipated but one I’m enjoying.   Being true to myself, maintaining balance in life is important, so it became necessary to give myself space.  Living life 24/7 is not healthy or wise.  Nor are unrealistic expectations.  Health is our most important asset – as I well know from having survived cancer (late 1990).  When health is gone, so is joy, opportunity and quality of life.  Again, priorities.  What is most important in life.

As I finish off the last bits of programming needed to get The Cancer Help Store website up and running for 2010, I want to encourage everyone to enjoy life, go after your dreams, stick with your passions no matter the hurdles, give yourself space to just be and embrace your family.

May you have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for the New Year.  I know I’m excited about what lies ahead, but I am enjoying the moment.  It’s all I have.  Make sure you know what is most important in your life and give it attention.

Today is the first entry – a new experience for me. My purpose is to share information on cancer products, services and gifts, listen to your comments and create a space that has meaning and relevance for all those going through the cancer journey, including family, friends and caregivers.

As a cancer survivor (Stage III breast cancer, November 1990), I understand the journey. As a co-founder of Wellspring Calgary, a community cancer support centre, I am in tune with current needs. As an instructor of Healthy-Steps, formerly Focus On Healing Through Movement and Dance: The Lebed Method, I constantly share with participants and hear their stories.
